George Henry (1858-1943)

George Henry was a Scottish painter. He was born in Irvine, North Ayrshire, and studied at the Glasgow School of Art, later in Macgregor's studio, but learned most from his nature studies at Kirkcudbright. He painted scenes of farmworkers in the fields among other subjects.

He was influenced also by his collaboration with the painter E. A. Hornel.  Henry's importance is in his influence in the use of richer and more decorative colour.

His painting "Noon" is a lovely evocation of the stillness of the day. It can be seen on the front cover of this lovely book about The Glasgow Boys :

Another lovely painting by George Henry is "Playmates" which can be seen by clicking here.
